Living Word Church

About Us

Living Word Church exists to bring glory and honor to God’s name and the name of His Son, Jesus Christ. Colossians 1:15-19

Our History

Living Word Church (LWC) had its start as a Saturday night Bible Study taught by René Monette at the local American Legion Hall in February of 1979. René and Vicki drove to Houma every weekend from Poplarville, Mississippi, and by June of 1979, church services were started. René faithfully pastored this church for nearly 40 years. On March 4, 2018, the Lord transitioned leadership from René Monette to Ben Bufkin as lead pastor. LWC has become a stable church of good reputation in the Houma area.

What We Believe

Living Word Church exists to bring glory and honor to God’s name and the name of His Son, Jesus Christ (Col. 1:15-19). We fulfill this declaration through our mission of Exalting Christ (Phil. 2:9-11), Making Disciples (Matt. 28:19-20), and Equipping the Saints (Eph. 4:11-16) “for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” (Eph. 4:12-13).

Meet our Pastor

Pastor Ben Bufkin was born in Louisiana but grew up in multiple states as his family traveled in ministry. He attended Gulf States Bible College as well as Moody Bible Institute. Ben served in ministry at LWC as an assistant pastor for 6 years before assuming the senior pastor role in March of 2018. Pastor Ben’s desire for LWC is to see Christ exalted, disciples made, and believers equipped for gospel proclamation.
